#player1 Kenji Kenji
#player2 Carl Carl
>Kenji: BEEIINW 8G NEWBIE +24 24
#note Worth noting before the start: Many top experts would've played this game as a non-collusive 6-pass. I asked Carl before the game "Hey, so, umm, you're in automatically if you don't lose by more than 15" and Carl said "I know you're up to something, I just want to win the game by 500 if I can". This comment was scary enough to me to scare me off the caterpillar game (honestly I didn't want to deal with the social consequences of that anyway). Oh, and WIENIE is probably better, slightly.
>Carl: ??KNOOY J6 KO.O +20 20
#note My third missed bingo of the tournament. I spent about five minutes looking for it. Can you spot it? As it turns out, KOBO sims best anyway.
>Kenji: AIILPTU 6F PULI. +17 41
#note Carl took 5 minutes or so, so I assumed a blank.
>Carl: ??CGNNY H8 .NsiGNCY +92 112
#note sYNCiNG M8 is probably a little better, restricting access to the NE quadrant. I played this very fast, having wasted so much time the previous move.
>Kenji: AAEGIIT H4 AI. +4 45
#note When you're making 4 point fishes on turn 3 keeping AEGIT, you know you're in trouble. That being said, I really do think this is best. IGUANA followed by column f defensive plays are just devastating, and even if Carl doesn't do that I'm in really bad shape.
>Carl: CEEOSWX 10D COXE. +29 141
#note Best play here is OWSE M6, setting up the X. It works because Kenji will probably bingo elsewhere. #visionsmall
>Kenji: ADEEGIT D10 .AGE +14 59
#note I just didn't see the 9e parallels here, and while leaving row 8 isn't good, I still have to do that here. Both are clearly better.
>Carl: ELOQRSW 14B RESOW +40 181
#note SEROW wins the sim instead. I would have thought that slating the R (the first R, at that) would be less dangerous than an S, and harder to parallel besides, but I guess not. Or maybe SEROW is better precisely because it's easier to parallel, taking out the lane. (-1) #strategysmall
>Kenji: DEINTTT 13C T.T +12 71
>Carl: AHLNQRU L4 QUAR. +28 209
#note Even though Rs are cheap, it's still better to play QUALE. We still have half the bag to draw, after all. (-3) #leaveevaluationsmall
>Kenji: DDEINTZ 15A ZED +45 116
#note I actually think I just have to shove here with ADZ. Yes, it absolutely sucks if Carl has the E, but this position is completely terrible, and Carl shouldn't have so many Es in his range here. I need lines, and I need to get there ASAP, and this doesn't do it. This honestly isn't even close: I really think I fucked up here. Yeah, there's 6 Es, there's other ways to block, and even it's not blocked I don't necessarily get there, but sometimes you've just gotta swing for the fences, and down 138 with a decent bingo rack and a close equity decision against a competent player means you absolutely have to go for it here. This is actually really, really bad.
>Carl: AHILLNR 4D RHIN.L +18 227
#note Quackle tries to outrun with LAH 11C. Not sure how I like that. The sooner Kenji bingos, the sooner he bingos again, and the fewer lanes there are, the less likely that happens. Then again, sometimes the best defense is a good offense. There are plenty of lanes to deal with, and I probably won't get to all of them. Also, notice that RHINAL isn't even that good for defense. It's not too implausible that it could get paralleled with a bingo. (-12) #strategylarge
>Kenji: ADINSTU M2 DUI +19 135
#note Hindsight means nothing, but I really felt like I screwed up at the time, and it turns out I did.
>Carl: ADELMNV 3F LEVA +24 251
#note LAVED (-6) #idiot
>Kenji: AFNORST N1 FATSO +36 171
#note It's good recognition that you need more lines, but you just realized it too late. FONDS probably does this better anyway, but at least I tried something. I just waited too long.
>Carl: AADMNRS O5 MANSARD +84 335
#note At this point I congratulated Carl for making the finals. This game's over, and yeah, I fucked this one up.
>Kenji: EINORTU 13H .EUTRINO +68 239
>Carl: AEFLM 5B FLEAM +40 375
#note I didn't write down my full rack here.
>Kenji: BIJRTTY 2F BY +36 275
>Carl: EEHIOPS O1 EH +37 412
>Kenji: GIJORTT E9 J.G +28 303
>Carl: ADIOOSV 10J SAVIO. +26 438
#note How does JO 9E ever win the sim? Like Kenji wouldn't block DISFAVOR. With the tile that was in the bag, SAVIOR comes out on top, but maybe JO is right. (-5?)
>Kenji: DIIORTT B2 TRI.ID +24 327
#note It's one point better to block, but I don't really care much.
