>sid: EEGLNOU 8E EUGENOL +66 66
#note J: cool opening placement! I didn't ask him about it but I figured it was because he wanted to centralize the board (avoid extending far from the star to make the "reachable space" of the board as small as possible). He may have had another theory, not sure
S: Revisiting some old games.
I was kind of confused when people asked me whether this was a troll move, since it wasn't. I've noticed a lot of people be amazed by random things like Nigel R. keeping a Y on an opening exchange or TABLE on a two tile fish, but I was hooked as soon I saw David open with OEDIPAL 8E in a game a few years ago. I personally find these things way more interesting. I played this to avoid 2LS exposure and to play in the middle of the board to try and get it more closed in the long run, but the 8C placement is intriguing, to limit the S hook, put the O on the star, and G in the 4WS lane. That is a big difference from E on star, E in 4WS lane, and L in 4WS lane, so may be worth doing, and therefore different from OEDIPAL (even though David didn't care too much about O and L in 4WS lanes). Either way, I wouldn't consider the "standard" EUGENOL 8B for the most points.
>jacks: GIJNPRU E5 JUP. +26 26
#note or PURLING, which may be decent given his tendency to go ham on defense (meaning I can score my way back). still, I am at a deficit so I want to be more bingo heavy, and GINR is nice here despite the G and N duplication in EUGENOL. wins a sim by a bit
>sid: CFHLMNO J6 MO.CH +26 92
#note J: very much a sid play, playing a 5 here! he's talked to me before about liking this type of configuration for defensive reasons, it doesn't give back much in terms of scoring plays and forces me to do the opening
S: I wasn't really sure of MOUCH, I'd do that for immediate defense and the extra points.
>jacks: AGINRRT 6D R.G +8 34
#note given a very defensive response, this play feelg pretty necessary. I can't just fish an R and hope he leaves stuff open, I have to be proactive in opening new space on the board.
>sid: AAFILNS K4 FLAI. +22 114
#note The pressure was already getting to me because this was my first game ever at Board 1- I took something like 6-7 minutes to make this play. I like the idea of FACIA because floaters get represented way more than hooks do on opp bingo %, and it takes out all the floaters when he just fished. But I'm OK with my play too.
>jacks: ACINNRT H2 INCANT.R +63 97
>jacks: ACINNRT -- -63 34
#note J: good challenge - I wasn't really sure if this was or wasn't a word. I felt okay playing it cause I heard that Sid isn't especially solid on words, so I thought that it could be invalid and not be challenged. If I was sure this was invalid I probably would not have played it though. #knowledgelarge
S: Just a guess to challenge, I had no idea.
>sid: AELNSSU 9H LA.S +21 135
#note Thought UNLASHED was an adjective, just missed SENSUAL. This play sucks- lucky that I'm already outdrawing Jackson brutally. I would play UNLASHES for 13 fewer.

>sid: BEEMNSU O4 .UBES +27 162
>jacks: IINOSTX M3 T.XI +22 82
#note Would like to keep a T for TRUG but I also would like to stay within 1 bingo range, so a play like MAXI felt like I was digging myself into a 2 bingo deficit. TAXI still leaves 2 lines open (10 row and n column). It absolutely destroys a sim which I find kind of surprising.
>sid: EFIMNTU C3 MUFTI +27 189
#note At this point I thought I should give up on complete restriction and just let him hit an airball column B bingo for 66 that gives ~45 back. I didn't like FUMET because the overlaps score too many points too often, and also it would create a solitary scoring spot.
>jacks: BIIKNOS D1 IKON +26 108
#note I didn't see L2 BI(R)O, which sims quite a bit better. It keeps better bingo chances and doesn't give back as many scoring plays, seems well worth the point sacrifice. #visionsmall
>sid: ADENPTY 1B PA.NTED +30 219
>jacks: BEIIIQS 2A QI +30 138
#note I played this immediately but 8a QIS is certainly worth considering. I still need to bingo pronto, and BEIIS is much better for that than BEII. QI also leaves the B column open, which is a marginal lane that doesn't hurt to have (the 10 row interferes with it so it's not actually imperative to leave it open). a sim still prefers 8a QIS but I think it's close and still like QI given the game situation
>sid: ?AADEEY L2 YA.E +19 238
>jacks: BEIISTY 11J YETI +30 168
#note MOOCHY*. seems like a big strategy mistake. YETI bingoes the most in a sim cause BIS is the most balanced and doesn't keep duplicate Is, but that's cause a sim won't have Sid playing on the 10 row very often, so that lane will be mine. I do still have the B column which gives a bit more merit to YETI, but I think I need to do BYE here to keep the 12 row and N column open. #strategymedium
>sid: ?ADEEGL 10B LEAGuED +64 302
#note Yeah my brain shut off here, GLACEED, GLEANED, etc. look fine. Tiles bailed me out immensely.
>jacks: BEIORST E10 .OB +12 180
#note maybe ABO instead, it is a bit tougher to block. I need two bingoes to win. I felt that after ABO he would play long on row 12 to exhaust the board. He can still do that after GOB with GOBO or GOBS, but the marginal B column will still be open.
>sid: ?INRSTZ N7 RITZ +37 339
#note This play does knock out some of the higher scoring bingoes and keeps my S (instead of ZEINS).
>jacks: DEIRSTV 13E STRIVED +73 253
>sid: ?ADNRSW H12 W.ND +36 375
#note Figured I'd try to bingo again given the crappy pool instead of play WARDS.
